Today is the 25th anniversary of the registration of the first .com domain.
It was way back in 1985 when the first ever dotcom URL was created. It was ‘Symbolics.com’. Who would have guessed? There were just six dotcoms registered that year, compared to the 100,000 that are created
- every day
now.
According to Gizmodo, Apple “registered their domain in 1987, with Microsoft playing catch-up a few years later in 1991.”
I bought my first .com in 1990 (and sold it back (at cost) to my previous employer who thought the Internet was a fad).
Has it been 25 years already?
