  1. My goodness… 450 movers and shakers or there abouts and 6 from outside North American. Guess the rest of the world must be pretty rubbish really; couldn’t be any other explanation … could there?

  2. Hi Phil. I agree. I wonder what causes this? I know at SLA we always had to beat the bushes very hard to get non-North Americans to nominate folks to break the geocentrism of elections and awards. In Canada we always just organize ourselves and nominate – whether it’s international awards or IFLA board or whatever. Are the British and others just more reserved and don’t engage in this nomination silliness or just uninterested? It’s very difficult to get recognized when they don’t run or nominate! I am sure there are many folks deserving (like yourself).

  3. Perhaps the committee should be allowed to surf around and see who’s innovating, rather than exclusively relying on formal nominations. We used a social-web approach to our Clawbies.ca awards, tracking nominations via blog posts and tweets. It worked quite well.

Oh… and I second Phil’s nomination. I can’t think of many librarians in or out of NA more deserving.
