Gale and NEWSWEEK Celebrate National Library Week

Farmington Hills, Mich., Apr. 7, 2010 – Gale, part of Cengage Learning, in partnership with NEWSWEEK magazine, is celebrating National Library Week, with a full-page ad in NEWSWEEK. On newsstands April 12, 2010, the ad recognizes the importance of libraries and invites readers to join the celebration by visiting their library and expressing appreciation for its services.

“Now more than ever, libraries play a vital role in the community,” said John Barnes, Gale’s executive vice president of strategic marketing and development. “At a time when families are fighting a wave of unemployment, businesses struggle to survive, and the country as a whole is working to rebuild, it is exactly the time we need libraries the most. Ironically, library funding is now more endangered than ever before.

“As we move forward to a knowledge and information-based economy, libraries are key to our country’s turnaround and future success,” continued Barnes. “Libraries need support from the communities they serve. The ad encourages people to do what they can to help libraries, whether it is a monetary donation or simply visiting the library to say thanks for all the library offers the community.”

The NEWSWEEK advertisement also references another way to stay connected with the library: by downloading the AccessMyLibrary (AML) mobile application for the iPhone – making access to library research just a click away on a mobile phone. Gale’s new mobile application helps iPhone users find their local library and then access a vast array of information that the library has acquired on their behalf. The free Gale AccessMyLibrary iPhone application expands libraries reach into the community and can be downloaded at the iTunes store.
