How do you promote that people are using the library’s stuff?

Catherine Pellegrino showed everyone this little graph:

I love it. It’s a great little visual that shows that students are using the library’s website. Add a few other graphs for licensed resources and gate counts and you’ve got an argument for the centrality of the library to student life.

Wasn’t it Yogi Berra who famously said “”Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded”?

Don’t underestimate the importance of crowd behaviours and social pressure.

Our Gale data on database usage shows clear alignment with the school year (but also shows peaks for teachers and professors alone in July/August and December). We all need to get better at communicating virtual usage alongside in-person usage of libraries. Maybe a cool infographic would work well here.
