Selling the Library Programs versus PR and Marketing

I love this post by a library PR person who has discovered the benefits of sales in addition to marketing and public relations.  It’s a great lesson for all.

Learning a New Dance Step or Two


“Well, let me tell you what I did when I faced just such a nightmare scenario (low attendance at a big program) recently at my library.  First, with the encouragement of my administrator, I made just one more sign.  Then I put it on a table right in the middle of the lobby.  I got a chair and a stack of tickets, put a smile on my face, and started to talk to everyone who came in the door.”

Lot to learn here.  This can be scaled at the Circulation/information desk too.  Simple really – people like to be invited.
