Is the Home Page Dead?

Here’s an interesting discussion.

Is the Home Page Dead?

Go read it here:
I agree that homepages are much less important than they used to be and may not be as important as other landing pages on your site.  Indeed many libraries find that their popular page lists include things like the OPAC search page, and specialized audience resources like teens, kids, or seniors or subject pages like genealogy or engineeering.
What can be a shame is that all the effort put into the homepage as a direction finding tool all too often is neglected on primary landing pages that folks have bookmarked or go to directly from referring links.  Hence, paying attention to your Google Analytics or site traffic reports can pay off in design work and making sure that you see which pages can lead people to other resources and goodness on your libraries virtual presence.
