OLA Poster: Federal Library Closures of 2012: A Rescue Effort

The current federal political interference in information based decision-making and the destruction of unique libraries is odious and actually being unlawfully done.

If the government disagrees with protecting our environment then they close the environmental research libraries.  Close fisheries libraries. Close dozens of libraries and destroy collections.  Don’t digitize the unique reports and data for posterity – destroy them and spread them to the wind!   Lie about digitization and what’son the internet. It’s not true and the public follows that train of thought like sheep.   Muzzle federal librarians and scientists with threats, rules and policy so that real information can’t get out.

What has been done cannot be undone.   When we get a new National Librarian and Archivist we should hold them accountable for obeying the law and serving their legal responsibilities under the Act(s).  If not, all associations (professors, librarians, scientists, and teachers) in Canada should collaborate and sue that office.  I really mean it.  It’s just too important to allow this destruction of public information and knowledge to continue unchallenged.  It must stop now.
