Roll up that e-book

Much has been made of the fact that the current generation of e-readers don’t roll up in your pocket like a newspaper or magazine can. And most don’t fit easily into a bag or pocket like some paperbacks can. Well this little invention might change all that.

Sony OLED Screen Thin Enough to Wind Up Around a Pencil

“Sony’s just revealed an OLED screen that’s so astonishingly flexible it can be rolled tightly around a tube the size of a pencil.”

And it’s not just for text – check out the video:

I still believe that these e-readers won’t be the end-game in reading for many reasons – even though I own about a dozen devices to read books, news, periodicals, etc. on personally. Still, this little roller offers some interesting points to launch the imagine.

It lets display screens appear just about anywhere and any size with little requirement for depth of space. . .! It may not be just a book rooled up in your pocket but TV and movies too.

  1. It’s funny how much this OLED screen looks like a strip of film being wound up on a spool. But the pictures are in full color and are moving!
