It’s all aboot the overdues

I apologize on behalf of all Canadians for Justin Bieber. I used to see this kid outside of the Avon Theatre in Stratford when Stephanie and I and the kids went to many plays there. My kids aren’t making billions selling music to teenyboppers but one graduates with her BFA with Honours Monday and the other starts his PhD after Labour Day. I’ll take the education over being 16 and an idol to tweeners. I don’t know if my kids feel the same aboot fame.

Anyway, here’s a video of Justin (sort of, Conan-style) doing a PSA for libraries:

As someone who crosses the border often, I am worried aboot this development. I don’t want to incur the wrath of Taylor Lautner and the Twilight werewolves in my neighbourhood.

I have hidden a few Canadianisms in this post. Can you count them?

  1. Well, first of all, you apologised. Of course, it’s something we do in our neighbourhood. We do earn BFAs (with honours) and we do start term after Labour Day. Theatre is certainly Canadian (although you can find more than a few of them Stateside in place of their normal “theater”), but “Stratford” as an event is more Southern Ontarian than pan-Canadian. As for “aboot” — no comment.

Any Canadian links to entertainers, of vampiric fame or as songsters, I’ll leave to others to sort out. But I did notice that in your previous post you correctly noted it is a “card catalogue“.

  2. I think there are 7 including the title but it’s hard work when you’re British – they don’t leap out in the way I guess they would for an American! Personally, of course, I’d be apologising too, but I guess that’s one Britishism too far even for you Canadians 🙂

  3. p.s. apology accepted – we know he’s an aberration.

  4. I think he looks a little more like the Canadians on South Park. Just the latest Canadian invasion.
