eCommerce is an underrated trend in library land.
eCommerce will emerge in the next few years as a major change agent to how people interact with buying goods – including books, aerticles and services.
I recently took a taxi ride outside of Chicago and the driver looked up the address on his iPhone and then used Square (a little attachment that’s being lead by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey) to swipe my credit card and calculate the fare. He was even able to print a receipt seamlessly from his phone. Amazing.

At most public libraries in this country, you can’t even pay your fines online. Mobile payments? By the time libraries get there, payments will probably be made by using the unique ID of a person’s brainwaves. Libraries are incredibly slow to adopt to technologies that people actually might want to use.
