The Scientific Reasons Why Introverts and Extroverts Are Different

“The difference between introverts and extroverts isn’t as important as we make it out to be. As this video explains, though, there are some scientific reasons why some lean more towards one end of this spectrum or the other.

As the video from ASAP Science explains, one key distinction between both camps is what’s known as “baseline arousal.” People leaning towards the extrovert end of the spectrum have a lower energy level to start with, leading them to more loud or exciting events to feel fulfilled. Whereas a more introverted person will get all the stimulation they need from a quiet walk in the park.

The video goes on to explain, as we have touched on before, that introversion and extroversion aren’t mutually exclusive. People can be in the middle of the spectrum (known as ambiverts), and neither extreme is a clear social disadvantage. Check out the video for more about the social and neuroscience of this socialization spectrum.
