“I’m delighted to announce that the 2024 edition of the #WHO World Health Statistics Report is out. This years edition reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic reversed long term gains in life expectancy at birth and healthy life expectancy at birth (HALE).
In fact, we estimate that the pandemic wiped out nearly a decade of improved life expectancy in just two years. In the first two years of the pandemic (i.e. up to the end of 2021), global life expectancy dropped by 1.8 years to 71.4 years (back to 2012 levels). Similarly, global healthy life expectancy dropped by 1.5 years to 61.9 years in 2021 (also back to 2012 levels).
You can learn more about these trends, find more disaggregations, and many other statistics including: progress towards SDGs, noncommunicable diseases, obesity and malnutrition at: https://lnkd.in/ecFREnDv”
