After Australia I headed east and visited Wellington NZ. It was such fun meeting with intelligent and innovative groups of librarians at the state library, national library and parliamentary library. Lots of wonderful transformational initiatives happening in New Zealand. Such a dynamic community!
These folks were the most hospitable hosts I’ve ever had. I got neat tours of Wellington in between and before sessions as well as two wonderful evening dinners. And the views!
The local SLA chapter hosted a huge public event for all librray folk nearby and here are my PPTs:
Reality 2.0: Transforming Ourselves, Our Associations and Our Enterprises
I hope to see more of NZ next time!

Hi Ross;
One of the greatest trips of my life. Your tours of Wellington were a hi-lite. Maybe I can return the favour someday.
Thanks,
Stephen
From NZ SLIS & SLA:
Stephen Abram had a brief stop in Wellington and addressed an audience of 125 librarians there, delivering a talk about transformational librarianship in organisations, and the way our profession transforms information into knowledge, often without even realising it ! He spoke about the power and politicisation of search engine companies and highlighted the ways in which we market our services to clients, and other topics.
SLIS and SLA made a DVD of his talk, and this will be showing on Tuesday 21st October at 6.00 pm at the Auckland City Library, Waitemata Room
The lively talk is delivered with Stephen’s usual style- lots of gusto and fun. The DVD runs for about 1 hour so come along and hear from someone who is in touch on a daily basis with the movers and shakers in our industry.
Date: Tuesday October 21st
Time: 5.30 – 6.00 for drinks and networking, and we will start the DVD at 6.00 pm
Location: Waitemata Room, Level 3, Auckland City Library, 44 – 46 Lorne Street, Auckland City.
Charge: $5 SLIS-North/LIANZA/SLA members; $8 non-members Library & Information students free.
