Dealing with Negative Feedback

A useful posting over at Life Optimizer blog:

How to Handle Negative Feedback in 6 Simple Steps

Here are my personal 6 steps on how to deal with such feedback.
1. Pause first; Don’t react.
2. Understand what the person’s concerns are
3. Assess if the feedback is true.
4. Reply to the person in kindness
5. Recognize receiving negative feedback is a positive thing
6. Learn from the feedback.

What have I learned about myself?
What have I learned about others?
How can I improve? What can I do differently from now on?

Read the whole post. It is wise.

I would also add that you should be concerned if you don’t receive negative feedback. You may be too insulated or your organization may lack effective feedback mechanisms. Both are bad for business.
