My first portable PC was an Osborne. It was the size of a “portable” sewing machine and weighed a lot. Just ask yourself how many times you’ve seen anyone carrying a sewing machine around in the street or hotel.
Well, the portable computer was born 30 years ago this weekend, when Adam Osborne unveiled the Osborne 1 in San Francisco.
I am sure glad the things got lighter, the screens bigger and we lost the green type and cursor.
Happy 30th Birthday to the Portable PC
So there’s some irritating old guy nostalgia for the day.

My first portable was a KayPro. Screen was bigger but weighted about the same as the Osborne. Thanks for the post – 30 years ago, huh? Do I feel old! But hey, I’m retiring on May 31. 🙂
