Canada: “Who Cares About Libraries?”

Another nice article abut libraries in Maclean’s.

Who cares about libraries?
Canadians apparently. Far from being under siege (except in Toronto), they’re thriving—and experimenting.
by John Geddes

Some great insights and quotes from top Canadian librarians.

Politicians beware. Don’t rattle cardholders cages or you risk your seat.

It’s nice when they get it right in the MSM (mainstream media).

  1. Indeed! My experiences indicate people( cdns) love not just the service of libraries but the idea. Unfortunately, political trends rule the day and right now, good or bad, tax is bad, public service is bad and free markets rule, despite the proven abuse the past decade.

I’ve always said Canadians and Australians were very alike. My state government recently tried to cut our library funds as well. The local uproar was and still is impressive. We love our libraries!
