Read ID’s? Library Cardholders

There is economic value in library cardholders. Mostly we really know who they are. That’s why libraries protect patron privacy so zealously. Anyway, apparently others aren’t so scrupulous:

Some estimates are that we have between 55-75% of the population as cardholders (of any age from 15-99+). That’s better than other things like driver’s licenses, any credit card, Amazon customers, Kindle owners, etc.

Think about it and why so many non-traditional enterprises are offering services about e-books, textbooks, e-readers, etc. Are they seeking access to a wider market on the backs of libraries’ indisputable trust ranking?
