What are librarians’ concerns about e-books?

I like how wordles help us to understand the types of concerns librarians have about e-books.  Check out this one from the LJ / SLJ Summt:

Visualizing Librarian Questions about eBooks

“Here’s a Wordle word cloud visualization of all 64 questions librarians asked during our panel presentation, “Navigating the Road Ahead: A Guided Discussion of Ebooks in K-12 Libraries,” in the October 12, 2011 webinar “EBOOKS The New Normal: how libraries are leveraging the eBook opportunity.” This Wordle draws attention to some of the primary themes on attendees minds today, including devices, the ways devices are used, student behavior, and Amazon’s Kindle format and Kindle devices.”

It is interesting that the Kindle seems to be at the forefront.

  1. Yes it makes a nice colourful pattern but what does it really all mean? If the ebook revolution doesn’t slow down or level off at some point in the future we risk losing a profession and another word in the English language – librarian. Is anyone else concerned about increasing technology and gadgets?

My main concern is accessibility (legal). Media companies still don’t “get it”.
