If you’re following the new iPhone or just want to know the state of play with the smartphone market, here is the latest data from the Pew Internet & American Life Project showing that 45% of American adults own smartphones. Two-thirds of young adults and those with higher income are smartphone owners: 66% of those ages 18-29 own smartphones; 68% of those living in households earning $75,000 also own them.

These latest figures show that smartphone ownership has increased from 35% in May of 2011 to 45%.
These new findings come from a survey of 3,014 adults by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project between August 7-September 6, 2012. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.
