- Bring Your Personal Problems to the Office
- A bad breakup makes you sad, distracted, and disinterested in your work
- A newborn child causes frequent tardiness at work

I don’t think I agree with everything since it can be a sign of a good culture if you’re supportive in many ways of your co-workers. The reverse can be true too.

Stephen, I think I’ve broken every one of these rules, and yet, somehow, to quote Stephen Sondheim, “I’m still here.” Hope to see you at ALA!

I agree that I don’t agree with some of these.
Good to know that having kids ruins your rep. 🙂 I know that’s not really what’s being said here, but that REALLY irked me.
LOL what Ghyslain said!
I think people are humans, our ability to keep that in mind keeps us rational. We make mistakes, especially under stress, it is hard to focus when family issues arise and there will be times when work performance will vary
You missed the 6th in the original source. Manage Your Social Media Accounts Poorly.
Life gets in the way sometimes. I’ve known people that never brought problems to the office and they were awful leaders, unsympathetic and cold and distant. Life and its problems make us who were are for better or worse. Everybody has a bad run. It’s just how you deal with it. I always think of “The Golden Rule” and treat people the way I would want to be treated in tough times and good times too.

Totally agree, Carol, and also with what Stephen said about how knowing your coworkers personally creating a positive environment. At my last place of work, I was on a small team of four, all parents, and whenever one of us got the “sick kid” call, the other three jumped immediately on what could be done to help that person leave ASAP and be gone long enough to take care of the issue with as little interruption as possible.
Ghyslain Sabourin I agree. My family is number one with me too. I just don’t continually make it everyone’s at the office no. 1 too. They shouldn’t have to constantly deal with it.
