Why is Google Afraid of Facebook? Because Social Networking Could Soon Pass Search

Consider that they’re mostly financed (and made free) by advertisers. If social media (or Facebook alone) trumps Google or Bing, wither search engines?
It’s an interesting question. Are we ready for even higher levels of social influence and ad priorities on search results?
