Ontario/Canada Colleges and Layoffs

We’re not going to get ahead of our international competition with this bloodbath.

  1. We need people educated for the jobs that will exist.
  2. A lot of manufacturing and trades jobs are challenged by robotics and AI. That needs more qualified talent.
  3. Feds: Fix the student visa issue.
  4. Ontario: Fundit properly now.
  5. Higher education is not nostalgia, it is our future.

Over the past month, hashtagCdnPSE has reported more than 1,000 more jobs lost (through attrition, layoff, or early retirement), bringing my total to 12,034. I’m trying to capture all full-time or part-time jobs, but I know there are plenty that don’t make my newsfeeds – especially contract and outsourced employees. Unfortunately, the damage of IRCC cuts to study visas will continue to pile up for another year or two.
