Knowing Where We Are From: African American Genealogy LibGuide is a curated reference archive of free, open-access, scholarly, academic, and public-domain resources supporting African American genealogical and historical research. Developed in alignment with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History® (ASALH) 2026 Black History Theme, A Century of Black History Commemorations, this LibGuide aggregates authoritative federal, state, institutional, and community-based repositories relevant to African American librarians, archivists, educators, and community researchers.
This resource emphasizes archival literacy, ethical genealogical practice, community stewardship, reparative description, and historically grounded research methodologies. It is designed as a reference archive rather than an instructional course and may be adapted for use by public libraries, academic institutions, archives, and community memory projects.
Links and access conditions were current at the time of publication and are subject to change.
