Treppenwitz: That clever remark that comes to mind when it is too late to utter it.

Yep, I’ve experienced that. It’s sort of in the mode of deja vu.

    This happens to me a lot too. A useful word. It’s rather like the French ‘esprit d’escalier,’ which means ‘the wit of the staircase’ or similar.

    Treppenwitz rolls of the tongue easier though, and it’s a heck of a lot more fun to say. 😀
