Word of the day: Treppenwitz

Treppenwitz: That clever remark that comes to mind when it is too late to utter it.

Yep, I’ve experienced that. It’s sort of in the mode of deja vu.

  1. Finally, a word for it! What’s its etymology?

  2. This happens to me a lot too. A useful word. It’s rather like the French ‘esprit d’escalier,’ which means ‘the wit of the staircase’ or similar.

Treppenwitz rolls of the tongue easier though, and it’s a heck of a lot more fun to say. 😀

  3. Yes indeed. A wonderful word!!!
