The 9 Kinds of Intelligence

I’ve always subsribed to Bloom’s Taxonomy of thinking styles and the work of Gardner and I quote them a lot.
This link goes to Gardner’s 9 kinds of intelligence and is a pretty good summary explanation of the types:
These are Gardner’s nine types of intelligence, as described in A Better Brain at Any Age (Conari, 2009) by Sondra Kornblatt.: (Full descriptions after the link)
1. Linguistic intelligence
2. Logical-mathematical intelligence
3. Musical intelligence
4. Spatial intelligence
5. Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence
6. Interpersonal intelligence
7. Intrapersonal intelligence .
8. Naturalistic intelligence.
9. Spiritual or existential intelligence

  1. yes yes yes…ever since I did a few units in an education degree and discovered Gardner’s breakthrough research I’ve viewed the world differently, e.g. I don’t push children into the traditional literacy boxes. Their primary intelligence might be body-kinesthetic (in my son’s case) where he learns best whilst doing things. This is all very Professor Ted Robinson’s view of the world too, that kids with this intelligence type should be ALLOWED to move, explore, use their body to learn. It’s how they learn best. He talks of the example of the current British prima ballerina who was mis-diagnosed as having adhd when young. Very very important that we, as educators, create environments suited to Gardner’s intelligence types. But trying telling that to moronic politicians who view literacy in terms of literacy and numeracy. Jaundiced view of the world.
