I had a lovely visit to Metropolitan Library System in Illinois on Tuesday and spoke to a nice group of library leaders about strategies affecting online resources usage.

Mr. Abram: You mentioned at the MLS Chicago suburbs talk that DVDs (?) or, was it CD’s would be dropped in 4 years. I presume downloading will be the replacing entity. As an old school guy, this is revolutionary to me. I’m used to hard plastic, feel like there’s endless piracy via Internet downloading, and, frankly, downloading doesn’t get you the nice graphics associated with a movie or music album. You point out correctly that formats change–as you noted where’s 8-track video, and audio-cassettes are about supplanted already.
