Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon: Twitter Wins

If you’ve ever played Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, you know what I mean. (Google it.)

Anyway, how far are we from anyone, yes anyone, on Twitter. How many connections can it take? I like the chart in the posting about ‘friendship distance’.

On Twitter, It’s Just Five Degrees of Separation

It’s interesting that the world is getting closer, even as we find new ways to get farther away and more polarized. I still have hope that peace can reign.

Now how far am I from my favourite stars?

Stephen

  1. Interesting post Stephen. I have heard this idea of six degrees of separation. Quite simply I don’t think it works. There clearly are not six degrees of separation as cultural and ethnic as well as financial boundaries apply. The internet is bringing people closer but there are not six degrees of separation from me to say an orphan in Mombassa. in the case of Kevin Bacon its a closed circle so the degrees of separation would be closer and in many cases less than six steps, but overall the theory is nonsense.

My standing joke is to add:

“In librarianship…it is only 2 degrees, and that is on a bad day.”

Sometimes it is literally true, other times I use it to point out that the profession is small and often closely related.
