The marvelous Patricia Martin pointed me towards this neat post from danah boyd, who is collecting internet myths. Here’s what she has so far:
“Myth #1: The digital is separate from the “real” world.
Myth #2: Social media makes kids deceptive.
Myth #3: Social media is addictive.
Myth #4: Kids don’t care about privacy.
Myth #5: The Internet is a dangerous, dangerous place.
Myth #6: There’s nothing educational about social media.
Myth #7: Kids are digital natives.
Myth #8: The Internet is the great equalizer.”
Can you think of any other myths?
If you know of any media portayals that sustain any of these myths, can you share them with danah?

Myths according to who? Just curious.
Fairly simple to satisfy that curiousity. Just click through using the link and you’ll connect to Dr. danah boyd (lower case is her choice). It’s the basis for her forthcoming book which I can assume is partially based on her PhD dissertation that exploded many of these myths. Now she’s writing a book on the media’s fascination with publishing these myths despite good research evidence to the contrary.

Thanks!
Every one has access to the Internet, and therefore government agencies can close satellite offices, and stop sending paper forms.
