POLL: What Do You Call Databases?

Does calling your library’s licensed resources ‘databases’ speak to end-user expectations and behavior? I am conflicted about what is the best name to call them. And does the label change by type of library or user? I thought that it might be fun to do a quick survey of you all as a Spring (it’s almost here, isn’t it? Please!) Lighthouse blog event.

So here is a poll with a few questions that I’d like your feedback on, and I’ll share all of the results with you in a few weeks.

Take the poll here or using the sidebar on the right.

It is a pretty simple poll and mostly all you need to know is what you call library licensed databases on your website or intranet.

Thanks a bunch. I’ll find the results interesting and I hope you will to.

Click here to take the poll.

I hope it doesn’t take you more than a few minutes.

  1. I’ll be interested in the responses you get – we are actually working on that very thing for our library! Our plan is simple – post an intern by our long circ desk line, and ask patrons what they call “these strange things on the web with free articles.” We’ll gather responses and start calling them that… whatever that is.
