The Stars are truly aligned!

“If you get up any morning for the next few weeks, you’ll be treated to the sight of all the planets except Saturn arrayed along the ecliptic, the path of the sun through the sky.

For the last two months, almost all the planets have been hiding behind the sun, but this week they all emerge and are arrayed in a grand line above the rising sun. Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter are visible, and you can add Uranus and Neptune to your count if you have binoculars or a small telescope.”

I’ll be in Australia for the next few weeks. I wonder if the planets are lining up in the sky there. Would it be at night? I’m more of a night person. Last time I was there for ALIA in ALice Springs we went deep into the desert at night and turned out all the lights and listened to an astronomer tell us about the southern night sky. It was awesome.

  1. It was pretty awesome. But not as awesome as your reaction when offered to hold a snake on the last day of that conference.
As to viewing, probably not so good at least according to the skymap http://www.sydneyobservatory.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/starmapMay2011.pdf
    But look East anyway.
