Half of US twenty-somethings have no landline

Something for any library that serves teens and twenty-somethings:

Half of US twenty-somethings have no landline

“The shift away from landlines continues, as 24.9 percent of all American adults now live in homes with wireless-only voice connections. Among younger adults aged 25 to 29, the numbers are twice as high; more than half have only a cell phone.”

One simple consequence of these shifts is that as cardholders age out of their primary and high school years, the simplicity of contacting them changes. You should consider annual 60-90 day campaigns of updating your ILS registry records (by asking at the circulation desk, or by e-mail) for updated address, birthdate, and contact (preferred e-mail(s) and phone(s)) info. If you can’t contact your user base, you’re in trouble when you need them for support! If the research shows anything it’s that people have added many more communication modes and have distinct preferences that is not always predictable by age.
