Libraries Need Another Viral Campaign

I looked at this infographic and thought about the few library campaigns that broke through the noise. Some examples are the Geek The Library campaign, the Twitter hashtag #savelibraries and the great Old Spice Guy YouTube video for libraries (406,000+ hits). I’d love to see more. I know some people think that we must always be elegant, sombre, buttoned-up and ‘professional’ but I like it when there’s a little fun and unexpectedness in our presence along with the rest. So many people hold marketing librarians and libraries to a single filter instead of letting everyone see all dimensions of the library experience.

Anyway, I think this infographic is useful:

  1. Since I have got an e-book reader I tend to read more then ever. Not only digital, but also hard copy books. By opening some kind of prize contest, giving away free digital copies of some books or something like that, libraries could attract great numbers of participants.

  2. Stavros: Your irony is hilarious! The thought of libraries giving away books for free . . . oh yeah, that’s what nearly all public libraries do. I wonder why people pay when they can borrow print and e-books for free.

I agree that libraries need another viral campaign. I love coming across these fun videos. I’ve recently come across a couple with some potential, but can’t seem to get there. Have you seen these by the NHCPL?
