iSchool @ Toronto Starts Wendy Newman Library Leadership Award

Wendy Newman, senior fellow and lecturer at the Faculty of Information is retiring at the end of June.  Wendy has made tremendous contributions to the Canadian library community in various leadership roles for over 30 years. In honour of her dedication to public librarianship, efforts are underway to establish a scholarship in her name to support emerging library leaders.  In keeping with her passion, the Wendy Newman Library Leadership Award will help build leadership capacity in the library sector by enabling an alumni of the iSchool to pursue professional development opportunities at some of the best programs in the industry, including the iSchool’s Public Library Leadership Fellows Program, which Wendy helped to form.

The goal is to establish a $50,000 endowed award. Wendy Newman’s family has generously agreed to match donations contributed a scholarship fund up to $25,000.  The attached letter from Wendy explains why they have made this amazing commitment.  We invite you to help create this award in Wendy’s honour.

Many thanks to those of you who have already given.  If you have yet to do so, donations can be made via the U of T website at: Any questions about the award or this campaign, can be directed to:
