The Intelligence Age

“ChatGPT’s new memory feature is a game-changer. No more starting from zero. Imagine an assistant that recalls your child’s love for giraffes, offering tailored birthday card ideas in future conversations. The AI utilizes these snippets to enhance efficiency and personalization, akin to a trusted colleague knowing your morning coffee order.
Privacy concerns arise, but OpenAI has safeguards. Memories are off-limits for training data, and sensitive info is proactively ignored unless specified. An opt-out feature ensures control, allowing users to erase memories akin to browser history. The line between helpful and sensitive, however, remains blurred. OpenAI’s test phase proceeds without a release date, promising a more nuanced, human-esque interaction model. techradar”

“ChatGPT Gets Dynamic Memory

OpenAI is testing a new Memory feature where ChatGPT will remember things discussed in conversations to make future interactions more helpful. How is it different from Custom Instruction? Memory is more dynamic, allowing for an evolving understanding based on what is shared over time in various conversations. Custom Instructions on the other hand are very direct instructions setting broad preferences or directives for all interactions. Memory feature will make your conversations with ChatGPT progressively more personalized. The feature is currently being rolled out to select ChatGPT free and Plus users.

Key Highlights:

  1. You are completely in control of ChatGPT’s memory. You can switch it off in the settings. If you want ChatGPT to forget something, just tell it. You can also view and delete specific memories or clear all memories in settings. If you’d like to have a conversation without using memory, use temporary chat. Temporary chats won’t appear in history, won’t use memory, and won’t be used to train our models.
  2. Custom Instructions continue to allow you to provide ChatGPT with direct guidance on what you’d like it to know about you and how you’d like it to respond. For explicit information or instructions, you can add it to your Custom Instructions.
  3. GPTs will have distinct memories, with builders having the option to enable memory for their GPTs. Memories are not shared with builders, ensuring user privacy. You might need to repeat details to different GPTs since each GPT has its own memory.”

OpenAI announces new memory feature for ChatGPT

“ChatGPT has a new feature that will help it make memories…but not quite in the way you might think. The new “memory“ feature announced yesterday will enable ChatGPT to build up context and memory about your preferences based on prior chats, and in turn give you answers tailored to your preferences.
The feature will let users tell ChatGPT to remember certain instructions for the future. For example, you may prefer bullet points to long paragraphs. You’ll simply be able to instruct ChatGPT to give you answers formatted as bullet points the next time you ask it a question.
Or you may want to tailor answers specific to your profession and industry. Say you’re a marketer for a productivity app. Just ask ChatGPT to remember that detail and tailor answers to your product every time you give it a marketing prompt.
Bummer alert: ChatGPT says they might use your data from memories to train their models. But if you’re not cool with that, you can opt out in the Data Controls section of your settings.
The memory feature is currently being tested with a select number of users, and will also work with custom GPTs.”

OpenAI has added a new memory feature to ChatGPT. This feature allows the chatbot to remember information from previous conversations and use that knowledge in new chats. Users can control what ChatGPT remembers and forgets, either directly in the chat window or through settings. This memory function likely works by creating a searchable database of facts extracted from conversations. The feature is currently being tested with a limited number of users and is expected to become more widely available in the future.”
