“What’s new? Hume AI has unveiled the Empathic Voice Interface (EVI), the first conversational AI with emotional intelligence.

What can it do? EVI is able to assess the user’s tone of voice and respond accordingly. According to Hume AI, EVI has the following capabilities:
  1. Responds with human-like tones of voice based on your expressions.
  2. Reacts to your expressions with language that addresses your needs and maximizes satisfaction.
  3. EVI knows when to speak, because it uses your tone of voice for state of the art end-of-turn detection.
  4. Stops when interrupted, but can always pick up where it left off.
  5. Learns to make you happy by applying your reactions to self-improve over time.
What does this mean? This is one of the biggest breakthroughs of the year so far for AI. A large part of human-like conversation is not only being able to engage in meaningful dialogue but also being able to assess emotions and voice inflections. The capacity for emotional intelligence will make LLMs more human-like and change the game for a plethora of applications. Now available as a demo, EVI will be publicly available sometime in April.”
