Researchers at Oxford University analyzed where the most powerful AI chips are distributed throughout the world. The US has the highest concentration of Nvidia H-100s, the most powerful AI chips on the market — partly because it already had the infrastructure to accommodate the chips when they were released in 2022. They’re about nine times faster than A-100s when it comes to training new AI models. |
China can’t access H-100s due to embargoes, but it’s tried to make up for it by accruing lots of less-powerful A100s instead. The oldest of the bunch, V100s, are more widely distributed around the world, including in places like South America and Africa. |
