May 5 is Red Dress Day, a day to remember murdered and missing Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. The families of these victims never received answers or justice for the loss of their loved ones, and so it is also a day to draw attention to the systemic racism at the heart of this issue. This day of memorial came out of the REDress project by artist Jaime Black (Anishinaabe and Finnish). The books in this list share the stories of the missing and murdered, but also the strength and resilience of Indigenous women fighting to heal their communities.
