Alberta needs to ‘take a step back’ on book bans: library association
An internally distributed list obtained by CBC News shows more than 200 books deemed sexually explicit are slated for removal from library shelves for students in kindergarten to Grade 12. The Alberta government has ordered some books to be removed by Oct. 1. Laura Winton, vice-chair of the Canadian Federation of Library Associations, says librarians and educators often help children think critically about literature in schools, ‘so removing it from that context is going to have a huge impact.’
