The future of hiring. HR executives are increasingly prioritizing skills over traditional credentials when considering job candidates, Fortune notes. In a survey of about 1,000 HR leaders, about nine in ten chief human resources officers (CHROs) say the need to recruit workers without four-year college degrees is increasing. Rapid advancements in AI and other technologies have upended the ways employers are thinking about the availability of skills, as well as which skills are most important. [Fortune]

Most HR professionals in the US feel confident that their organizations can navigate future volatility, even as they point to past issues with managing and communicating about change, according to a Conference Board survey. As HR Dive reports, personnel issues (for example, employees’ reluctance to embrace new work practices) often stymie efforts to transform organizations. CHROs and other HR leaders can support change efforts by sponsoring dedicated change management teams and promoting continuous learning. [HR Dive]

Performance issues. The gap is widening between what organizations need from their HR function and what many HR departments offer today, Senior Partner Vincent Bérubé and coauthors say. McKinsey’s HR Monitor 2025 report, which includes insights from a survey of more than 4,000 employees in Europe and the US, suggests that most HR departments are far from realizing the full potential of today’s latest technologies. For instance, while many organizations are exploring how gen AI can enhance productivity, only 19% of core HR processes in Europe currently incorporate the tool.

Enhancing employee experiences. The report suggests that employee experience is underdeveloped: About 20% of European and US workers report dissatisfaction with their employers, according to the survey. While job security, work–life balance, and relationships are the primary reasons that workers remain in a given role, many HR leaders tend to focus on improving compensation and working hours, which only partly addresses what matters most to employees.
