Today, the Canadian Urban Libraries Council/Le Conseil des bibliothèques urbaines du Canada (CULC/CBUC) releases key findings from a first-of-its-kind National Social Impact Study on urban public libraries in Canada.
Based on lived experience from 18,000+ respondents across 26 urban library systems, the study measures social impact across distinct demographic groups, including age, gender, income, education level, cultural background, newcomer status, and frequency of library use.
Rather than focusing solely on traditional measures like “how many,” the study places individual experience at the centre of the inquiry. It introduces a social impact framework that considers emotional, intellectual, creative, and social outcomes, offering new insight into how these important spaces impact library users.
The findings will be formally presented this morning at the hashtagOLASC, marking the first public release of this national research.
The full English and French reports will be available today at 12 p.m. EST.
