Evidence for Democracy is releasing a new report, AI and Democracy: Navigating Trust, Truth, and Technology in Policymaking.
Drawing on a broad review of the federal government’s first publicly available AI Register, the report examines how AI is being actively deployed across 42 federal agencies, where it is shaping policy decisions, and what the growing reliance on American-owned AI infrastructure means for national security and data sovereignty.
The report also outlines clear policy options for strengthening transparency and accountability, including clearer legislation on AI-generated content, a centralized monitoring body for federal AI usage, and systemic safeguards to protect the privacy of vulnerable groups.
