McMaster University: Emotions Matter Study: Emotional Resilience in Libraries: Tools for the Modern Workplace

The release of Report 2 from the Emotions Matter Study: Emotional Resilience in Libraries: Tools for the Modern Workplace.

Public library workers are increasingly navigating complex emotional terrain. This report, drawing on survey data from 17 public library systems across Canada, documents how emotional labour shapes the modern public library workplace and offers concrete recommendations for building resilience through shared language, skill-building, peer and supervisory support, and organizational policy.

A heartfelt thank you to the full research, steering and advisory teams for this important work. Special recognition to Dr. Diana Singh, Principal Investigator and Executive Director of ARMS at McMaster University, whose leadership has been central to bringing this research to life — and to our public library partners.

If you work in or alongside public libraries, this report is well worth your time.
