“May is Museum Month in Ontario! This year is the 26th annual May is Museum Month, providing a meaningful opportunity to remind elected officials, communities, and stakeholders that museums matter. This year’s theme is the value of Ontario museums and we encourage you to explore and develop it in ways that best reflect your site and organization.

How to Participate

• Request a proclamation that “May is Museum Month” from your Municipality. Download the OMA’s request letter template and draft proclamation (read through, and fill out the highlighted sections). Be sure to cc the OMA on your email (communications@museumsontario.ca)
• Send an invitation to your local elected official to invite them to an event you are holding in May. Download a template letter HERE, and find your MPP’s contact information HERE.
• Use our bilingual graphics or Canva templates alongside our social media messages. Read more in the Communications Toolkit HERE.
• Use the OMA May is Museum Month 2026 wordmark on your website and publications, and forward to your local media outlets.
